We recently participated at a great event organized by United Nations Association Broward County Chapter @unitednationsofbrowardcounty at Pace Center for Girls in Ft Lauderdale Fl., where we had the opportunity to meet and get inspired by amazing #women ππ½π±π½ββοΈπ©π½βπ¦±π©π»π©π½β𦳠We had a tea party and a discussion panel about gender equality and how to overcome obstacles to have girls and women in leadership positions.
Dr Ciara Bostic was one of our guest panelists and we were impressed with her trajectory in education and social impact. She holds a PHD in organizational leadership and she founded a non-profit organization that offers mentoring programs for girls in disadvantaged areas in South Florida.
We also had the privilege to have as our guest speaker Lieutenant Colonel Duilia Mora Turner who is a veteran from the air force and had served as a scientist in different shuttle missions at Cape Canaveral. As a foreign affairs officer, she promoted military diplomacy working in policy and strategy.
Both guest speakers shared with us their personal and professional stories, Dr Ciara emphasized the importance of being authentic, not to lose our essence in becoming a leader. Duilia mentioned that the great equalizer in gender is technology, so we should embrace it and use it as a tool. She also mentioned that she never saw βobstaclesβ, she saw them as opportunities, such as joining the military and serving her country.
Our audience was formed by outstanding women in their fields who currently serve as board members of non-profits and they also occupy key positions in large corporations serving as community leaders promoting a culture of diversity and inclusion. We all learned a lot from each other and we were all inspired by their amazing personalities and unique stories.
